Madan Mohan Malaviya, Maharaja of Darbhanga Rameshwar Singh, Sunder Lal and British Theosophist Annie Besant founded Banaras Hindu University in 1916. The university used to be called Central Hindu College before the change into BHU. The BHU is a central university of the Indian government. BHU has six institutes, one of which is the Indian Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU). The various disciplines offered by BHU include PG, UG, Diploma and courses of the widest scope. Banaras Hindu University offers the following courses: BSc, BTech, BA, MA, MSc, MTech, and PhD, among others Banaras Hindu University's flagship program is the BSc Hons program. The admissions are mostly done through CUET UG (Common University Entrance Test). The Banaras Hindu University education is taught in the Sanskrit, Hindi and English languages.
