1) Eligibility for Regular Full-Time PhD Program:
Applicants must meet the educational qualifications and research area requirements as specified on the institute's website or advertisement. Registrations are generally open in the following areas: PhD in Engineering: BME, CE, CH, CSE, EE, ME, MME PhD in Science: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences
2) Eligibility for External Registration Programme (ERP)
This program is available in the following departments/centers: PhD in Engineering: BME, CE, CH, CSE, EE, ME, MME PhD in Science: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences Minimum Eligibility Requirements GATE or Equivalent Qualification: Not required. Professional Experience: A minimum of 2 years of full-time employment as of the application deadline. Organization/Institution: The sponsoring organization must have at least 5 years of existence (exceptions for CFTIs/GFTIs). The candidate must be engaged in R&D activities, and the organization should have adequate research facilities. Sponsorship/NOC: An unconditional sponsorship or NOC from the employer is mandatory at the time of joining. IIT Ropar bears no financial liability for ERP candidates.
3) Eligibility for Direct PhD Programme
This program is open in the following areas: PhD in Engineering: BME, CE, CH, CSE, EE, ME, MME PhD in Science: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (only for CFTIs) PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences Minimum Eligibility Requirements For Students from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs): Must be in the final year of B.Tech/BE. No GATE or equivalent national exam is required. A minimum CGPA of 8.0 out of 10.0. For Students from Non-CFTIs: Must be in the final year of B.Tech/BE. GATE or equivalent national exam qualification is required at the time of joining. A minimum CGPA of 8.0 out of 10.0. The program follows the guidelines for the regular PhD program
4) Eligibility for Part-Time PhD Programme
This program is available in the following areas: PhD in Engineering: BME, CE, CH, CSE, EE, ME, MME PhD in Science: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics (only for CFTIs) PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences Minimum Eligibility Requirements: GATE or Equivalent Qualification: Waived for part-time candidates. Professional Experience: At least 2 years of full-time work experience after B.Tech/M.Tech/M.Sc./M.A. or equivalent as of the registration date. These eligibility requirements ensure flexibility for professionals and students from diverse backgrounds while maintaining high academic standards.
